A 5 Question Interview to Suit our ADD World
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ms. Shannon Lavery & Ms. Angie Cox 12.1.09
Note from C: When speaking as
one – referred to as Shanngie
Location: Genola, UT
Profession: Shannon: Stay at home mom. Angie: Recreation Assistant.
Single/Married: Shannon: Married. Angie: Divorced
How do you pay the rent: Shannon: Mr. Fabulous Works really hard. Angie works her hiney off.
How much do you weigh: Shanngie: A lot
How much do you tell people you weigh: Shanngie: A lot less
What is your best feature: Shanngie: How can we choose just one?!
1. Tell me about the Fabulous Fatties. www.thefabulousfatties.com/ Shanngie: It is just a place where we share our lives, work family, friends and mainly about trying to lose weight and get healthy but we are on a 20 year diet plan.
2. What do you find most challenging about being big girls in a skinny world? Shanngie: It is so hard to buy clothes. Stores think that the average woman is a size six. We really believe that it is very important not to let the scale dictate how you feel about yourself. If you are healthy and feel great then you are in a good place!
3. My best friend lost 60 lbs the first time we tried to diet – and has kept it off – while I have continued to maintain my weight at over 200 lbs. Do you see your friendship changing if one of you loses weight and the other doesn’t? Shanngie: No because we do not think that will happen. We are way to much alike and unfortunately that can be a very bad thing. (Like when we skipped out of the Kathy Smith workout to go eat breakfast together) And if you are a friend you are a friend – fat, thin, round, or square – it has nothing to do with size or physical appearance.
4. What is your ultimate dream? Shannon: To wear a size 10 one piece swimming suit, floating down a river of chocolate as Mr. Fabulous fans me while flexing his 6 pack abs! Angie: Lose an unspecified amount of weight, marry Chris Daughtery and be fabulous…oh wait I already am.
5. Your tag line on your blog is “Given a cape and a tiara I could save myself.” I own a tiara and a cape too. Did you win or purchase yours? Shanngie: We were born with them attached.
Miss Gabi – 11.5.09
Name: Gabi
Location: Detroit, MI
Profession: Right now, teacher. Hopefully not forever.
Single? Married? Single
How do you pay the rent: Teaching
How much do you weigh: Around 215
How much do you tell people you weigh: 215 (why lie?)
What is your best feature: Hmm….my lips.
1. Tell me about Young Fat & Fabulous: YFF is a blog for plus size young women who are into trendy clothing and want to stay current. When I started, there were VERY few plus size fashion blogs, and none catered to the demographic that I was a part of, so I wanted to change that. http://www.youngfatandfabulous.com/
2. What’s the best/worst thing to happen since beginning YFF: The best thing has probably been having the ability to inspire other girls. Working with designers, models, magazines and retailers is also a dream come true and definitely not something I expected when I started. Nothing bad has really come out of it—I get hate mail from time to time, but that comes with the job and I don’t let it bother me.
3. What makes a good blog post: A good post has valuable content, is well-written, and has great pictures.
4. Who are your favorite designers: Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen, Prabal Gurung and Balmain
5. Do you have a signature style? If yes, what are the hallmarks of your style: My style is always changing. If I look back at pictures of me from a year or two ago, I am wearing things that I would never wear now. I try not to limit myself, and I get inspired by different things all the time. Currently, I really like the rocker chic look, and I think a nice blazer or leather jacket completes any outfit.
Ms. Corinna Makris – This Lush Life 10.19.2009
Location: Westchester, New York. I live about an hour north of Manhattan, where I lived most of my life.
Profession: Website developer. ThisLushLife.com is an online fashion resource for full figured women. ACelebrationofCurves.com is my blog where I write about fashion and living a pleasurable, even hedonistic life.
Married: Yes for nearly three wonderful years.
How do you pay the rent: My husband and I are very fortunate that he is in a union with excellent benefits and job security. This Lush Life is also doing quite well, thanks for asking!
How much do you weigh: I haven’t gotten on a scale in years.
How much do you tell people you weigh: I can’t remember ever being asked. Do people do that? How rude.
What is your best feature: My sparkling wit and vivacious personality!
What was the last step you took to make your dream a reality? I have owned and operated This Lush Life dot com for almost 4 years. Most recently I have decided to transform the site from pages of links to pages of products. It is an enormous undertaking but one that will make searching and finding plus size fashion a lot more fun for my site users as well as making the site the most comprehensive in terms of fashion available online. It’s been my dream since the beginning to have this kind of functionality and in my self-appointed role as “catalog whisperer” it is going to make it a lot more fun for me too!
My first paid job was… I pumped gas in a gas station. Full service too! (Need me to check the oil after I wash those windows?) It taught me a lot about customer service and patience.
I knew I could make it when… I seem to either be extremely naïve or just damn lucky or maybe a combination of both. I can be incredibly impulsive and I like to try everything that seems like it might be fun. From skydiving to starting my own business. I always have doubts about whether or not I am going to make it financially or if I will become successful in that field. It doesn’t get in my way because financial success and status among my peers has never been what I am most ambitious about. My main ambition is to have a good time. Fun is the goal and Love is the way. You always “make it” with those terms.
I feel most beautiful in my… Wow! Great question. Specific clothes? I have an Igigi cocktail dress, black with full lace sleeves and I feel beautiful in that. I also have a long white Melissa Masse dress that fits like a dream (as seen in pic) that I picked up at Lee Lee’s Valise (http://leeleesvalise.com/) in Brooklyn. I feel elegant in both of those dresses but I also find that feeling beautiful comes from within. Feeling good about yourself is the beginning of feeling beautiful, and wearing clothes that fit well at your current size goes a long way toward feeling beautiful.
What have you done that no one would ever guess? Well…I mentioned skydiving before! That was an amazing experience.
Thank you Catherine for the opportunity to speak with your readers. I had a great time!
